Ohio Statehouse Restoration and Capitol Atrium

Over a ten-year period a phased restoration of the National Historic Landmark Ohio Statehouse and Senate Building was completed to recapture the historic integrity of the buildings and provide modern conditions for users. Design issues included programming/space planning for the legislature, meeting life safety requirements, providing access for people with disabilities, incorporating modern HVAC and lighting systems, and concealing state-of-the-art communications, security and other electronic devices. The Atrium addition, sensitive to both the Statehouse and Senate Building, was completed to link the Statehouse and Senate Building and provide added space for public functions.

Your involvement was crucial to gaining the knowledge we sought. That visit to view the architectural and code life safety solutions used in your project resulted in information that will be applicable to our situation in the U.S. Capitol and its associated structures.
