Columbus, Ohio, 11/20/2006 - Tom Matheny, AIA, vice-president of Schooley Caldwell Associates, will be speaking on sustainable design at this year’s 2006 In Design program hosted by AIA Columbus on Thursday, Nov. 30 and Friday, Dec. 1, 2006.
Matheny will be a member of a panel discussion held Friday entitled “Real Applications of Sustainability”. The panel will address many important aspects of sustainable design. The focus of the discussion will include how sustainable design practices can be implemented and the effects these design decisions have on our built environment. The panel will also address what the future may hold for the practice of sustainable design.
Matheny was selected to speak based on his involvement as project manager on the Lazarus Redevelopment project in downtown Columbus. The project is currently the largest LEED renovation project in the State of Ohio.
Other panelists include Bryan Arch, LEED AP (NBBJ), Angie Cantell (Appalachian Center for Economic Networks), and Joe Swick and Sophio Corna (Corna-Kokosing Construction Co.).
Background: In Design 2006 is a program designed to bring together allied professionals in the building industry to share viewpoints and to provide an intellectually stimulating discussion on a relevant topic. In an effort to build on the National AIA movement to expand the practice of sustainable design, AIA Columbus is offering a variety of programs that will explore the topic in diverse contexts; from big concepts, to strategies, to risk, to practical applications, there’s something for everyone.
