Schooley Caldwell president takes active role in the Preserve America Summit in New Orleans

Columbus, Ohio, 10/19/2006 - Robert D. Loversidge, Jr., FAIA, president and CEO of Schooley Caldwell Associates, will be attending and taking part in this year’s Preserve America Summit being held in New Orleans Oct. 18-20, 2006. At the summit, Loversidge will serve on the “Addressing Security” panel co-chaired by Philip W. Grone, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Installations and Environment and James Malanaphy III, AIA. Loversidge is one of more than 300 preservation, government, business, education, tribal and other leaders involved in preservation who have been invited to offer their expertise, suggestions, and insights on the National Historic Preservation Act and how it can better serve communities, states and the nation. The Preserve America Summit is an effort to take stock of strides made over the last four decades in historic preservation because of the National Historic Preservation Act and explore how to continue protecting places associated with America’s heritage into the next century. Issues covered at the event include security, using historic properties as economic assets, involving all cultures, building a preservation ethic and appreciation for history, fostering innovation, and participating in the global preservation community. Goals of the Preserve America initiative include greater shared knowledge about the nation’s past, strengthened regional identities and pride, increased local participation in preserving the country’s cultural and natural heritage, and support for the economic vitality of communities. The summit will be led by Mrs. Laura Bush, First Lady of the United Sates and Honorary Chair of the Preserve America initiative. Background: The Preserve America Summit is being administered by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), which is an independent federal agency that promotes the preservation, enhancement, and productive use of the nation’s historic resources, and advises the President and Congress on national historic preservation policy. It also provides a forum for influencing federal activities, programs, and policies that impact historic properties. In addition, the ACHP has a key role in carrying out the administration’s Preserve America program. See www.achp.gov for more information. ###
