Columbus, Ohio, 10/3/2006 - Robert D. Loversidge, Jr., FAIA, president and CEO of Schooley Caldwell Associates, received the AIA Gold Medal Award from the Ohio Chapter of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) at its annual conference in Youngstown, OH, on Sept. 15.
This award is given to a single individual each year and is the most prestigious award given by AIA Ohio for an individual’s contribution to the architectural profession.
“Bob’s work, leadership, and passion for architecture have been appropriately recognized, and his distinguished career has been an asset to the architectural industry,” said Robert Vennemeyer, AIA, president and CEO of DesignGroup.
Bob led the 12-year-long, award-winning renovation, restoration and expansion of the 150-year-old Ohio Statehouse, a working capitol and National Historic Landmark. The position of “Architect of the Capitol” was created to accommodate his on-going service. His dedication and experience has lead to Schooley Caldwell’s design services for restoration of the state capitols in Kansas, Utah, and Minnesota.
In addition to the Gold Medal, Bob accepted an AIA Ohio Honor Award for the firm’s design work on the Old Montgomery County Courthouse in Dayton, OH. Schooley Caldwell Associates worked with Jeff Wray Architects in Dayton to restore the interior and exterior of the pre-Civil War era building for the Montgomery County Board of Commissions and the Montgomery County Historical Society. The building, which dates from the 1840’s, is recognized as one of the finest remaining examples of Greek Revival architecture in the nation.
Schooley Caldwell Associates is a 62 year-old multi-disciplined architecture, engineering, planning, interior design and landscape architecture firm specializing in historic preservation, renovation and new building design for public and private clients.
